Feasibility study on remote sensing approaches for road management in developing-country contexts.
Overview
OurEO examined how remote sensing and related data approaches could support road-asset assessment, maintenance planning and decision-making where conventional surveys are difficult or expensive. The project considered the technical and commercial feasibility of combining new data sources with established road-management needs.
Objective
To examine the technical and commercial feasibility of remote sensing methods for road-asset assessment and management in developing-country settings.
Work undertaken
Work covered stakeholder analysis, state of the art, user and technical requirements, technical feasibility, commercial feasibility, proof-of-concept definition and project management, with input from road and remote-sensing specialists.
Outputs and findings
Outputs included stakeholder evidence, requirements, technical and commercial feasibility findings, proof-of-concept definition and exploitation planning. The project moved the concept from basic principles into an experimental proof-of-concept route and identified pathways for further development.
Contribution to Hodos Media
OurEO is the origin point for the current SAHEL programme and provides the technical and commercial lineage for the later SAHEL feasibility study and SatComBox.
