Consortium project using AI, GPS, RFID and operational data to support decision-making in waste-collection operations.
Overview
FleetMind was an Innovate UK-supported consortium project focused on waste-collection operations. Hodos Media worked with technology, research and local-authority partners to examine how GPS, RFID, route, vehicle and historical operational data could be integrated and interpreted for control-room decision support.
Objective
To develop and trial an AI and machine-learning approach that integrates operational data and provides clearer, timely information for waste-collection control-room decisions.
Work undertaken
Work included operational workshops, stakeholder and user requirements, architecture and interface refinement, hardware and data integration, prototype development, trial support, feedback and close-out reporting.
Outputs and findings
Outputs included requirements and stakeholder evidence, interface and architecture inputs, a functional prototype, data integration and trial evidence from local-authority waste operations. The project demonstrated practical integration of varied fleet data and reinforced the importance of user-centred decision support, interoperability and operational engagement during deployment.
Contribution to Hodos Media
FleetMind provides related evidence of Hodos Media’s fleet-operations, local-authority and data-integration capability. It sits outside the three current core programmes.
