UK-India innovation sprint examining a low-cost handlebar-mounted navigation and crash-alert system for safer urban mobility.
Overview
The Global Explorers project examined how a handlebar-mounted navigation and safety display developed in India could be adapted for UK and European active-travel contexts. Hodos Media worked with Navbunnies as the Indian project collaborator on co-design, user requirements and UK feasibility.
Objective
To determine how a low-cost handlebar-mounted navigation and safety system could be adapted across Indian and UK active-mobility settings, and to define evidence-led routes for further pilot deployment and manufacturing development.
Work undertaken
Work included co-design workshops, UK user and data assessment, support for a ten-unit pilot in Hyderabad, review of visibility and mounting issues, supplier sourcing in Shenzhen and preparation of a follow-on UK public-sector pilot proposal.
Outputs and findings
Outputs included user and technical requirements, pilot evidence from ten prototype units, supplier intelligence from Shenzhen, UK feasibility and market assessment, and an Active Travel England follow-on proposal for a 100-device data-insight pilot with Bristol City Council. The proposal is not presented as funded delivery.
Contribution to Hodos Media
The project adds active-travel, international co-design, user-pilot and early design-for-manufacture evidence to Hodos Media’s track record. It does not represent a Hodos Media ownership position, investment holding or spin-out.
